GREAT FOR KIDS TO DO WITH CAREGIVERS!

Help Keep Books in the Hands of Kids in 85034!

Did you know that not every child has the same access to books? For some families, purchasing books, getting to a library, understanding how to use library services, or even having transportation to a library can be a challenge.

That’s where Little Free Libraries (LFLs) come in! They make it easier for children and families to discover and enjoy books right in their own neighborhoods.

Join Southwest Human Development’s Team LFL!

Southwest Human Development has placed and now oversees hundreds of Little Free Libraries throughout the Phoenix Metro area — and we need your help keeping them stocked and in good condition!

Here’s how it works:

  • Choose your libraries. Pick as many LFLs as you’d like to “adopt” from our list. You can choose libraries close to home, libraries across the Valley, or even libraries located in book deserts — areas where children may have fewer opportunities to access books. You are seeing this post because there is a Little Free Library near this intersection that is waiting to be adopted! *NOTE: This specific LFL is located inside of a business that is only open Tuesdays-Sundays, 9am-4pm. Please only adopt this LFL if you are available to restock during these hours.*

  • Grab some books at our warehouse (Optional). Our warehouse on 24th St & Thomas is available by appointment, from which you are welcome to obtain books to restock your libraries! You can also provide books, if you'd like.

  • Check in every other week. Visit your adopted LFLs to make sure they have a good selection of books and that the library is clean and in good condition. (Some libraries may need restocking less frequently than every two weeks.)

  • Send us a quick update. After your visit, simply send us a photo and a brief update so we know how your library is doing, including reporting any damage.

And there’s a little something for you, too — you’ll even get a cute Team LFL shirt to wear while you’re out restocking! 😊

How Much Time Does It Take?

Volunteers typically spend about 2–4 hours per month, depending on how many libraries they adopt and how often they need restocking.

It’s a simple, flexible way to spend time together, explore your community, and help make sure more kids have access to books.
