About
This volunteer opportunity is designed for youth under age 18. If you are an adult volunteer over age 18, please register for this opportunity instead.
Communities want more books! Many people who take care of Little Free Libraries find it hard to keep them filled because so many readers want books.
You can help make sure every reader gets a book by organizing a book drive for Little Free Libraries in your community. This opportunity is open to any youth volunteer in the US in a community with Little Free Libraries.
How to start: Sign up here by clicking the Register button. If it's your first time signing up with Team LFL, you will need to create an account in our volunteer hub. After signing up, we'll send you a book drive planning guide that will help you make a plan to start a drive and share books with Little Free Libraries.
You can find local book-sharing boxes by using our world map or free mobile app. Little Free Library staff can answer your questions along the way.
You can plan your book drive at times that are good for you and your community.
Why is this important? By keeping Little Free Libraries full of books, you are helping to build community, inspire readers, and expand book access.
Here's what you will do:
- Set up a local book drive.
- Work with local businesses and volunteer groups to find places to collect books.
- Let your community know about the book drive.
- Check all collected books to make sure they're in good condition and what your community needs.
- Give out books to local Little Free Libraries.
Time Required: You decide how long your book drive lasts, but usually, it's about two weeks to one month, plus time to plan.
Training: We will help you get to know our organization and give you tips for a successful book drive.
What you need:
- A love for Little Free Libraries and a desire to help people get books
- A way to get to places to pick up donated books: walk, bike, drive, or use public transportation
- Organization

What you get: Volunteers in the US get a free Little Free Library t-shirt after you record your impact here in the Team LFL online hub! If you need proof of your volunteering for school or a community group, we can help with that.
