Youth Volunteers: Put books in Little Free Libraries in your community

Open Opportunity

About

This volunteer opportunity is designed for youth under age 18. If you are an adult volunteer over age 18, please register for this opportunity instead.

We need your help to make sure that everyone in your community can easily enjoy great books.

Youth volunteers can be part of this by putting books in Little Free Libraries around your area. We can suggest where to look for free or cheap books, or if you already have some, you can share those too. You can find book-sharing boxes near you using our world map or free mobile app. Any youth volunteer in the US who has Little Free Libraries in their community can register.

Register here to get started. If it's your first time signing up with Team LFL, you will need to create an account in our volunteer hub. Once you sign up, you will get access to online training and useful tools. Our Little Free Library staff can answer your questions. You can share books whenever it works for you.

Why is this important? By keeping Little Free Libraries full of books, you are helping to build community, inspire readers, and expand book access.

Here's what you will do:

  • Collect books that are in good shape.
  • Go to Little Free Libraries near you and put books in them.
  • Use the Little Free Library app to check-in and tell us how many books you shared.
  • Submit an Impact form here in our volunteer hub when you're done.

Time required: You set your own schedule. It could be a one-time project or a regular schedule.

How we can support you: We'll help you start with some online training, and we can suggest sources for books.

What you need:

  • Love Little Free Libraries and want to help people get books
  • Willing to collect or give away books
  • You have a way to take the books to nearby Little Free Libraries (walking, biking, public transportation, or driving)
  • Live in the US

What you get: You will get a free Little Free Library t-shirt after you tell us about your volunteering online! If you need to proof of your volunteering for school or a group, we can help with that.

Questions: You can contact Brianna, the Community Engagement Manager.

Next steps: Staff will review your volunteer application and check to make sure your parent permission form has been submitted. Once your application has been approved, you will receive an automatic confirmation email. This email contains instructions for next steps and links with important information for volunteering. If you do not see this confirmation email, please check your Spam folder.
